A winery is transformed

A building that has its origins as far back as the 17th century offers a fabulous place with history to see, touch and feel. The conversion of a traditional winery into a modern museum building marks the beginning of a new chapter. In 2020, the conversion began on behalf of the Foundation Gemünden and Friends. The Gemünden family has been firmly rooted in the building trade for 138 years with the Karl Gemünden contracting business. One of the company's areas of expertise is the high-quality restoration of listed buildings. With awesome attention to detail, the historic property was carefully modernised. The aim was to transport the soul of the house tangibly into the modern age. The former cowshed with cross vaults is to become a place of encounter with straight display cases for valuable pieces from Africa, Asia, America and Oceania. Steps trodden over centuries lead into old vaulted cellars. These are being elaborately restored to become, among other things, a stunning presentation area for sculptures and figures. During the conversion, it was important to the Gemünden family that as many historical details as possible be preserved and underlined by modern elements. And this seems to have been more than successful: Walking through the listed courtyard complex, one feels as if one has been transported on a mysterious journey through time.
